Kurt Russell is in negotiations for a key role in next summer's "Fast & Furious 7," reports Variety.
There's no indication as to just who the Hollywood legend would play in the venerable action franchise, though Variety notes that the role had previously been offered to -- and declined by -- Denzel Washington. Russell's last major movie was Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" in 2007.
"Fast & Furious 7" will bring the series back to its original Los Angeles location, and returning players include Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Paul Walker. There's no official plot synopsis yet.
Despite gearing up for its seventh lap, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Fans flocked to the release of the sixth installment earlier this year, earning the film $750 million in worldwide receipts and the title of most lucrative in the series.
Directed by horror legend James Wan, "Fast & Furious 7" is due out July 25, 2014.
