Could comedienne Amy Schumer become the next Kristen Wiig? That's what Hollywood insiders are saying about the rising star, who recently received a huge vote of confidence from none other than Judd Apatow.
Much as he did with Wiig's "Bridesmaids," Apatow is set to produce and help shape the script for a film project that Schumer is writing, and in which she is set to star. Though no plot details have been revealed so far, studio Universal is also high on Schumer, and has already optioned the script, perhaps seeing in the actress another moneymaker along the lines of Wiig and fellow Apatow favorite Melissa McCarthy.
Schumer is currently best known for her appearances on a series of Comedy Central roasts, which she used as a springboard to launch her own series, "Inside Amy Schumer." The show was a runaway hit for Comedy Central earlier this year, and season two is due out sometime next year.
Schumer's fondness for profanity and frank discussions of sexuality make her a seemingly perfect fit for Apatow's brand of humor. Here's hoping their pairing makes some movie magic.
