Much of the speculation about next summer's "Amazing Spider-Man 2" has centered on the movie's villainous supporting cast, which includes Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn (later the Green Goblin), and, depending on who you believe, Colm Feore as The Vulture and Felicity Jones as the Black Cat. In the Spider-Man comic books, Doctor Octopus (played by Alfred Molina in "Spider-Man 2") assembles a supervillain team called the Sinister Six (also included: Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter). Could this be in store for "Amazing Spider-Man 2"?
Sony has released a couple new images from the film, as well as a behind-the-scenes shot of producer Avi Arad sitting in front of a soundstage marked "Sinister 6." This is a pretty big clue that if this movie doesn't feature the villainous group, then future installments in the franchise just might.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" reunites director Marc Webb with his Spider-Man-of-choice Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone (as Gwen Stacy), and Sally Field (as Aunt May). According to the brief plot synopsis, young Peter Parker will learn more about his (and his parents') mysterious past, while coming up against a whole boatload of villains. The screenplay is by noted J.J. Abrams confederates Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner, based on a story by "Amazing Spider-Man" screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt. It will be very loud and in 3D.
"Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens on May 2, 2014.
