The Internet is always looking to get worked up into a frenzy. So when "Shaun of the Dead" star Simon Pegg, who was conducting a podcast at Marvel Studios in anticipation of his new film "The World's End" earlier this week, took and shared a photo of himself next to a giant mural, pointing to an illustration of Ant-Man, the web went wild.

"Ant-Man" is the next project from "World's End" director (and frequent Pegg confederate) Edgar Wright. But sometimes when you put two and two together, you get five.

After igniting a firestorm of speculation, Pegg attempted to clear things up on Twitter, and was naturally as humorous as ever.

Quite frankly, anyone could suit up as Ant-Man at this point. Marvel is gearing up to shoot the movie soon, but a cast hasn't been announced. Pegg is just as likely a candidate as, say, The Rock or Sharon Stone. He's also been known to misdirect the audience before: Remember all those "it's not Khan" comments before "Star Trek Into Darkness" opened? Yeah, so do we.

So either the photo is, in fact, a shout-out to Pegg's pal Wright, or Pegg really is in line to play diminutive scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel blockbuster, out in fall 2015. Only time will tell.

"The World's End," which is the perfect cap to the trilogy that Wright and Pegg started with "Shaun of the Dead" and continued with "Hot Fuzz," will be out next Friday. We can tell you, with some degree of certainty, that in that film, at least, he doesn't play Ant-Man.
