Looks like it will be a while longer before alien turtles invade from the sky: The release of the Michael Bay-produced reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" has been pushed back.
The move, from June 6, 2014, to August 8, 2014, no doubt comes in part as a way to make room for the flick in next summer's family friendly film-heavy schedule. Its original release date would have sandwiched it closely between two hotly anticipated titles: Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur" (out May 30) and Dreamworks's "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (June 20).
The Hollywood Reporter notes that while "Ninja Turtles" may ultimately receive a PG-13 rating, it's still courting a family audience, and it would have had to fight those films' fans for eyeballs had it stuck to its initial plan. "Ninja"'s new release date also moves it farther from the release of Bay's other project, "Transformers 4," which is due out June 27.
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg, and William Fichtner.
