The Enterprise has been chugging along for decades, and it's not going to slow down anytime soon. "Star Trek 3" is already in development, with franchise writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci currently in talks to pen the script. Let's hope Kurtzman and Orci (pictured above) are stocking up on Red Bull, because they're also writing the TV series "Sleepy Hollow" and are attached to a number of other projects, like "Van Helsing" and "The Mummy."
A deal with J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production team is also nearly signed, sealed, and delivered, but the director's chair is still up for grabs.
Latino Review reports that "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon M. Chu is "the top contender," but his people have denied it. Given that Chu already has a "G.I. Joe" movie on his hands, it seems unlikely he could add "Star Trek" to the mix. Of course, Abrams is going to be quite busy with "Star Wars," so he probably won't have time either.
Other names have been floated as well, with Cinematallica suggesting that "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" director Rupert Wyatt is at the top of Paramount's list.
This is all to be taken with a large grain of salt, because the Internet is like a big game of telephone, and in six months we'll be trying to figure out who's playing King of the Klingons or something.
