The "Bourne" legacy lives on. Just without Bourne.
Deadline reports that Universal is prepping a fifth movie in the hit action franchise as a follow-up to "Bourne Legacy," which starred Jeremy Renner instead of Matt Damon.
The studio has hired Anthony Peckham ("Sherlock Holmes") to write a script. It's unclear if "Bourne Legacy" director Tony Gilroy will return to helm the sequel.
Renner's Aaron Cross took over for Damon's Jason Bourne in the fourth installment, a saga about drug-enhanced assassins. In "Legacy," Cross was a member of a secret black ops program who became a target when Bourne helped expose the clandestine operations. Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton co-starred.
While the story is still being written, one thing we know won't happen is a meeting between Cross and Bourne. Damon has said he won't return to the franchise without director Paul Greengrass, who oversaw "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum."
