One of the highlights of this year's San Diego Comic-Con, at least according to those who actually attended, was when the unreasonably handsome Tom Hiddleston appeared at the Marvel panel, dressed in full Loki regalia.
In an interview with Empire, the actor, who played Nordic superhero Thor's villainous half-brother in both "Thor" and "The Avengers," explained that he had been in "lockdown" for the two days before his scheduled appearance, walking around in a Jango Fett helmet. And then in juicier news, he also revealed why his character, who stole the show in the already overcrowded "Avengers," won't be back for the recently renamed sequel, "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." Sort of.
"We talked about it," Hiddleston began, meaning himself and "Avengers" writer/director Joss Whedon. "And I think it's great for the film that I'm not going to be in it. Because I'm so proud of the first one, and Joss and I had so many things that we loved about it. And if we were to do it again we'd be chasing those moments, we'd be chasing that again."
While this is somewhat disappointing, it will be exciting to see the superhero squad face off against a new villain. Hiddleston admitted as much, too, saying: "The Avengers need a new villain to fight and they need new things to do." Not that he's happy about sitting this one out. "I'll miss the dance parties, of course," he added. "And Scarlett mixes a mean tequila. But for the film, I'm waving them off and saying, 'Good luck, have fun.' And I'll be in the front row when it comes out."
Silly Hiddleston, the front row is a terrible place to watch a movie -- especially in IMAX 3D.
Hiddleston can next be seen, magical scepter in hand, in "Thor: The Dark World," which opens on November 8. "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be out in the summer of 2015.
