The actor, who hasn't appeared in a film since the late 1990s, spoke to The Heeb about his recent foray into music, his iconic work in the cult classic "Spaceballs," and his role as Louis Tully in the first two "Ghostbusters" films. While on the subject of "Ghostbusters," Moranis revealed that an associate of Aykroyd's got in touch with him several years ago, asking if he'd be willing to return to the series.
"I said, 'I don't say no to anything until everything is presented to me,'" Moranis recalled. "What is it? Is it happening? Is there a script? What's the part? Who else is in it? Where is it? How long is it gonna take? You know, I need a little bit more information."
Sounds like Moranis has the same questions as the rest of the planet.
Moranis repeated the anecdote in a later interview with Empire Magazine, adding that the film has "got to be good" before he'd consider signing on. He also revealed where he thinks Louis might have wound up after "Ghostbusters II" ended.
"You know, I'm not interested in doing anything I've already done, and I thought the second one was a disappointment. But I guess I'm interested in where that guy is now," he said. "I sort of see him as being Bernie Madoff's cellmate in jail. Both of them being so orderly that they race to get up and make their beds."
Though it's a bit of a dark turn for the character, at this point, it's a clearer vision than anything Aykroyd has discussed in the past. Maybe Moranis should get in touch with his former co-star and offer some assistance with the script -- they've got a lot of work to do if Aykroyd's prediction to start shooting next year has a chance to come true.
