It's a documentary, baby!
The last time we saw -- well, heard -- Mike Myers was in "Shrek Forever After," and now the "Austin Powers" funnyman is set to tap into his serious side for his first time behind the camera. His next project will be directing the documentary "Supermensch," about legendary manager Shep Gordon.
One of Gordon's most colorful clients (and friends) is so-called shock rocker Alice Cooper, who has since mostly given up his grease paint for golf clubs. In a roundabout way, Cooper is how Myers and Gordon met, as the actor turned to the manager for the rights to use Cooper's song "Feed My Frankenstein" in "Wayne's World," when Wayne and Garth attend an Alice Cooper show. "I thought he was a perfect combination of Brian Epstein, Marshall McLuhan, and Mr. Magoo," Myers announced in an official statement. "I've been trying to get Shep to agree to let me make a movie about him for 10 years."
A chance encounter with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix changed the course of Gordon's life, and since then it's been a colorful ride that should make for a very interesting documentary. It could also mean a second wind for Myers, whose last original property was the universal bomb "The Love Guru."
