AFI FEST 2014 Presented By Audi
It was just a normal day of Tweeting between "Selma" director Ava DuVernay and producer/co-star Oprah Winfrey when they announced and/or decided that they'd be screening a "hot off the presses" version of "Selma" in its entirety at AFI Fest. Previously, they were planning to just do a 30-minute preview and Q&A, but last night they debuted the two-hour plus movie premiered, followed by a Q&A with Winfrey, DuVernay, and David Oyelowo.

As it turns out, this was a genius move, especially since AFI Fest is open to the general public and tickets are free. (According to Deadline, DuVernay "had always hoped this could be presented in its entirety at AFI Fest and had likely planned to spring it as a surprise Tuesday night.") "Selma" was received with open arms and a standing ovation last night, as well as lots of social media buzz from critics and audience members.
