After "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" did not fare so well, Sony has been looking to rejuvenate the franchise. There's been talk of a Sinister Six movie and possibly a female Spider-Man. It's becoming clear that the best way to do a Spider-Man movie ... is without Spider-Man.Latino Review floats a rumor that Sony is considering a prequel focusing on Aunt May: "A movie about Aunt May as a youth, before she was shouldered with the responsibility of raising Peter Parker. The target mood is some sort of espionage story in the vein of AMC's 'Mad Men,' which sounds like a way of saying 'classier Agent Carter' without name-dropping Marvel's upcoming series."
As ridiculous as an Aunt May movie sounds, it would actually be following the trend of prequels following side characters. Agent Carter, a breakout from "Captain America," will star in a miniseries on ABC this winter. Fox has a hit with "Gotham," about a young Jim Gordon. And there's a rumor that a Superman prequel called "Krypton" is in the works.
So, would a superhero movie without a superhero would just be called a hero movie?
