Broadway Will Dim Its Lights to Honor Philip Seymour Hoffman

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who, in addition to his extensive and eclectic filmography was also an accomplished stage actor, will be honored by the Great White Way this week as Broadway has planned to dim the lights in his memory.

Theater lights will be dimmed for one minute on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. in honor of Hoffman, who earned numerous Tony nominations for his work on the Broadway stage. His most recent theater role was as Willy Loman in the classic play "Death of a Salesman" in 2012, and he also starred in presentations of "True West" and "Long Day's Journey Into Night."

Hoffman also served as a company member and former artistic director of Off Broadway's LAByrinth Theater Company.

"Philip Seymour Hoffman, a three-time Tony Award nominee, was a true artist who loved the theatre," said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of the Broadway League, in a statement. "His prolific body of work encompassed various mediums including theatre, film, and television, and we'll always be grateful for his boundless and profound talent that he shared with us on the Broadway stage. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and fans."

Hoffman died Sunday of an apparent drug overdose at his New York City home. He was 46.
