Rev up your engines, because Ryan Reynolds is heading out on a road trip.

According to Deadline, the actor has signed on to star in "Mississippi Grind," which follows a down-and-out gambler who teams up with a younger gambling addict as they hit the road to try to change their luck. The movie comes from Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the team behind "Half Nelson."

Reynolds appears to be replacing Jake Gyllenhaal, who'd been rumored for the role.

With "Mississippi Grind," Reynolds continues to mix big-budget movies with smaller indies. His last movie was "Safe House" with Denzel Washington, and he has the Atom Egoyan thriller "Queen of the Night" in the queue. He's also still attached to star in "Deadpool," an "X-Men" spinoff, and he stars in "Turbo" (voice) and "R.I.P.D.," both in theaters this July.

As Indiewire notes, perhaps Reynolds is hoping Fleck and Boden can do for him what they did for another young Canadian actor, Ryan Gosling, who earned an Oscar nomination for "Half Nelson." "Mississippi Grind" is set to start filming sometime next year.
