The movie sounds promising, with a script from "Moon" scribe Nathan Parker and Drake Doremus ("Like Crazy") directing, but Stewart is pretty nervous about it so far.
"In 'Equals,' things go wrong because you can't deny the humanity in everyone... It's the most devastating story," she said, describing it as "a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion." Her co-star in this extremely epic love story is Nicholas Hoult, who isn't unfamiliar with sci-fi or strange love stories with work in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Warm Bodies."
Doremus absolutely destroyed viewers with his romantic drama "Like Crazy," starring Felicity Jones, Anton Yelchin, and Jennifer Lawrence. Although this is his first movie where he hasn't written the script as well, we can trust that it will definitely make our hearts ache in all the best/worst ways. "It's about love in a world where love really doesn't exist anymore," he told the AP.
Let's not underestimate the sci-fi flavor, though. "Moon" is a fantastic little film that used the loneliness of outer space to create a weird, sad mystery about reality and identity. Doremus told "Little White Lies," "I definitely want to maintain the elements of the intimacy while doing something bigger and different." Although the budget won't be insanely big, there will "definitely" be some special effects involved. "It's not going to be out of hand, but I think it's a logical next step, if that makes any sense without giving too much away of the budget realm," Doremus said.
As for Stewart, "I'm terrified of it... Though it's a movie with a really basic concept, it's overtly ambitious."
In the meantime, we'll be looking forward to reactions out of Sundance to "Camp X-Ray."
